More than 21 million people in the United States are blind or visually impaired, and while theaters have previously run movies with tracks, they have only been available through specialized devices found at select theaters. Those with impaired vision have been largely excluded from watching movies – until now!
Thanks to Disney’s smart-syncing audio description, made possible by Audible Magic, audience members who are in need can access a descriptive narrator that matches up with the film they are viewing, with only an iPhone or iPad and a pair of earbuds. For more than eight years, Pixar has invited visually impaired representatives to focus groups in order to create the best experience possible. With this technology, viewers of all visions can fully enjoy the fun of “Finding Dory.”
To access this feature, simply download the Disney Movies Anywhere app onto an iPhone or iPad running on iOS 7 or above, plug in your earphones, and enjoy the film!
Disney’s efforts to accommodate all types of viewers is admirable, and it’s wonderful to know that children across the United States will be able to enjoy this Pixar sequel regardless of any impairment.
“Finding Dory” opens tomorrow, June 17th!
