One thing is clear in today’s world: Star Wars is a big deal. But the real question is why? The latest trailer for the next film in the Star Wars universe has reminded us exactly why.
As you probably know, “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” will take place between Episodes 3 and 4 in the cinematic series, telling the untold story of how the Rebellion got hold of plans for the Empire’s Death Star.
The trailer itself doesn’t do much to give background on why the Death Star exists or whose side is on who. Rather, it shows off the action, adventure, uncertainty, vastness, closeness, and emotional brilliance of the Lucasfilm storytelling; the same storytelling that we fell in love with back in the 1980s.
It’s a “new” story with a modern day twist too, with the first Asian actor in a prominent role (Donnie Yen) and yet another female lead character (Felicity Jones).
While many of us Star Wars fans are excited to see so much familiarity, we shouldn’t be surprised to see the excitement of a new generation of Star Wars fans being built up that all started with “The Force Awakens”.
The film hits theaters on December 16, 2016.
