Earlier today, songwriter Alan Menken revealed through a story on Entertainment Weekly of the new songs that will be in Disney’s live-action version of “Beauty and the Beast”.
Among the new songs is a song called “Our Song Lives On”. According to Menken, “it’s basically [about], ‘How does a moment live forever? How do you hang on to precious moments?” It’ll be sung in a few forms, with the first time being sung by Belle’s father Maurice as he’s completing a music box. “Then, it’s reprised by Belle, then is the song that is played over the end credits at the end of the movie,” Menken said.
Clearly since it’s a song that ends the film, it’s pretty important to it (and should be to us). So what does this song sound like?
At Menken’s one-night-only concert a few weeks ago at the Segerstrom Center of the Arts, Menken ended his concert with an encore singing the song in full!
Love pays no mind to desolation
It flows like a river through the soul
Protects, endures, and perseveres
And makes us whole
Minutes turn to hours
Days to years then gone
But when all else has been forgotten
Still our song lives on
That’s how a moment lasts forever
When our song lives on

We’ll get to hear this and so much more music from Menken when the film hits theaters on March 17, 2017.
UPDATE 1/19/17 – the song will be sung on the soundtrack version by Celine Dion!
