Shanghai Disney Resort held its second biggest event last night apart from its grand opening – the world premiere of the next film in the “Pirates of the Caribbean” film franchise.
Stars of “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” including Johnny Depp (Jack Sparrow), Geoffrey Rush (Captain Barbossa), and Orlando Bloom (Will Turner) were “all hands on deck” for the glitzy premiere. Newcomers Javier Bardem (Captain Salazar), Brenton Thwaites (Henry Turner), as well as directors Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg were also there.
It was a first-of-its-kind premiere in that it was the first ever Hollywood film to have premiered in Mainland China.
The red carpet took place in Disneytown, adjacent to the theme park, with the screening taking place inside the Walt Disney Grand Theatre – home to the first-ever entirely Mandarin production of “The Lion King” musical.
It was a great place to have a premiere, too, as Shanghai Disneyland is the only Disney Park with a dedicated land to the Pirates of the Caribbean film franchise. The stars had the opportunity to explore it, including the award-winning Pirates of the Caribbean: Battle for Sunken Treasure attraction.
“Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” releases worldwide on May 26, 2017.
