You’ve probably seen the above video circulating showing off something very cool: those awesome Disney characters you see at Disney’s theme parks talking. We can verify that what you’re seeing is not a dream or the handy work of a professional VFX person. It’s real.
In the video, you see a guest visiting Disney California Adventure Park in California approaching what looks to be a closed-off meet-and-greet area where Mickey, Minnie, and Donald are waiting. They immediately start talking to the guest with some authentic greetings and responses.
“Hi, Mickey! I like your jacket. It’s so stylish,” the guest says, to which Mickey immediately (and appropriately) replies. “Hiya, pal! Aw, thanks!”
It’s worth noting that although the sight of seeing these “live” characters interacting with real people is pretty darn magical, it isn’t a new thing. Walt Disney World debuted a talking Mickey who greets guests earlier this year. Disney execs have had Mickey speak at important presentations a few years ago, too. In partnership with Walt Disney Imagineering, the technology to produce such an experience is only beginning with these small tests.
While Disney didn’t immediately respond to comment regarding when the full rollout will happen, it’s great to slowly see the magical character greeting experiences become more public is fantastic to see. Until then, be sure to tweet us if you capture a magical talking Disney character greeting!
