Big Hero 6.

Earlier today, the Walt Disney Animation Studios announced their newest film which, of course, will be done with computer animation now that the company has cut its hand-drawn animation department.

As sad as that may be, new partnerships are forming and with the announcement of the new animated film called “Big Hero 6,” a new animation world filled with new stories will be emerging.

Due out in theaters on November 7, 2014, “Big Hero 6” will tell the action-comedy story of a robotic prodigy named Hiro and his robot named Baymax as they team up with other crime fighters in a futuristic twist on an American city called San Fransokyo (seen in the concept art above).

If the story seems familiar to you know, then you most likely wouldn’t be mistaken the film is based off a little-known Marvel comic book series set in Japan. This marks the first real partnership that Disney and Marvel will have together since the acquisition back in 2009 where Disney artists will be combined with comic storytelling.

We’re certainly looking forward to what “Big Hero 6” has in store for us. In the meantime, be sure to check out the video HERE as Disney Animation has released a first-look at the footage from the film which is currently still in production.

Have any of you heard of the “Big Hero 6” comic series from Marvel before? What can you tell us about it? What do you like from it, if anything? Are you happy to see Marvel stories slowly take a bigger portion of Disney territory? Let us know in the comments!

Scratch It Out.

We have some sad news to report today, folks. That type of drawing and animation seen in the picture above that Walt himself perfected and took pride in no longer exists at The Walt Disney Company.

Earlier last week, Disney marked the end of the hand-drawn animation department by laying off many of the veteran animators in Walt Disney Animation Studios which perfected the art for years through the multiple ground-breaking and award-winning films this generation has seen and beyond Walt himself.

Although the reason for the cuts haven’t been revealed, many speculate that the Disney is just prepping itself for the future with the transition of all their animated films now coming from computers, which would cut costs.

Although costs must be cut as the business grows, we still believe that the art form of hand drawn animation can still live on, don’t you think? We aren’t Disney “purists,” but we do think that hand drawn animation still brings a lot of emotion to films with the stroke of every animator’s pencil. Take “Paperman”!

Although the end of an era has come and the cuts have been made, we still hope that animators and their pencils will eventually make their way back to the desk creating the films that we’ve loved.

What do you all think about the loss of the hand drawn animation department at Disney? Do you remember the hand drawn animated films? Do you think hand drawn animation differs from computer animation? Let us know in the comments!

Force-in’ It.
Disney certainly is, folks! Just yesterday at a gathering of cinema owners called CinemaCon, the Walt Disney Studios announced the timeframe of when the new Star Wars films will be released under the Disney banner.
Star Wars: Episode 7 will be released in Summer of 2015 with Episodes 8, and 9 being released every other Summer after that (2017, 2019 respectively).
Can’t wait that year in between films? Well, Disney has also announced that the long-rumored standalone films that will focus on particular characters in the Star Wars franchise will be released in between the major Episode releases in 2016, 2018, and 2020.
So indeed Disney is ready to show off its new acquisition not a long time from now and in our own galaxy. The hype is certainly there and although we wish we could jump to lightspeed and see what J.J. Abrams has in store for us in Episode 7 (and possibly 8 and 9), we’ll have to wait.
Patient, we are not.

We’ve heard the complaints and the support for the new Star Wars franchise, but what we really want to know from you is if Disney can actually pull this off, so what do you think? Can they? If you can reason your response, comment below! We might just reference you in a future story!

Disney Treasures.

This past MLK Day Monday, some of the DE Staff decided to pay a visit to the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum. Now, we’re sure you’re wondering why we did so.

The simple answer was that there was treasure there, and not just any type of treasure(s), folks. This was Disney treasure and it is all part of a temporary exhibit at the library called Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives.

Put on by our friends at D23 (The Official Disney Fan Club), the exhibit brings treasures from The Walt Disney Company’s history all in one place. Some of those treasures include original Disneyland ride vehicles and Disney Pictures’ movie character costumes. You’ll even get a glimpse of the beginnings of the company through the early pieces from Walt Disney’s life as well. Many of the things you’ll see have never been on display to the public before!

We’ve posted some pictures from our visit to our Facebook Page, but really encourage you to go visit the exhibit and the rest of the Reagan Library yourself! Not only will it give you a deeper appreciation of being a Disney fan, but a deeper appreciation of a former President and how he was just as much a Disney fan as we were.

D23 Presents Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives will only be around at the Reagan Library until April 30, 2013. Be sure to buy your tickets now (and remember to apply your discount if you’re a D23 member)!

Bob Iger - The Big Cheese.
You might not know the name, but you sure do know what he does. That picture above is of Robert (Bob) Iger, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the largest entertainment company in the world.
Yes, The Walt Disney Company - the company we love writing and you like reading about!
Mr. Iger has been with the Disney Company since 1974 and quickly moved up the corporate ladder shortly after. In his current role, he is always looking to make the company better and more beneficial to the millions of fans that Disney has, including us of course! He was also influential in the acquisition of Pixar, Marvel Entertainment, and now Lucasfilm making Disney the most diverse in entertainment in the industry and beyond.
We would love to interview Mr. Iger one day, but in the meantime, enjoy THIS VIDEO of him sharing his thoughts as CEO and THIS ARTICLE sharing his love for Disney Parks (and in particular Cars Land).
Today also happens to be The Walt Disney Company’s Annual Meeting of Shareholders and Mr. Iger was indeed present at the meeting to give some updates and highlights of what the Company has done and is planning on doing in the immediate future.
We’ll be sharing those points and audio of that whole presentation later on.

Magic-Making Begins With Internships.

If there’s one thing that all of us as part of the staff at DisneyExaminer have in common, its the fact that we would ALL love to work for Disney someday. We’re sure that that might also be a desire for all of you as well. But as you’ll soon find out, it’s not all that easy to do.

In being able to gather resources when producing stories, we have been able to get little hints and tips on how to score your dream job with the dream-makers and we found that the best tip would be to apply for a Disney Internship.

As with all internships, they do have specific requirements (i.e. college grad, undergraduate, GPA, skills, etc.), but with gaining these internships (or any internship for that matter) you not only get experience, but you get to meet and get to know those who have made it in with the company.

Networking and establishing relationships through internships to get a job isn’t new news, but it’s something that isn’t brought up a lot, especially with Disney. It wasn’t only until recently that they have made a strong push through social media and other means to get the word out there that there is such a program.

Take a look at the video above to learn more about some current Disney interns and what they love about the program. You’ll then start to understand that although it is work, it’s work that dreamers do.

In other words, it’s a dream job.

Disney Senior Show Director - Quite Literally A Dream Job

We would be among the many people out there that would say that working for The Walt Disney Company is a dream. Not that it is fake, but that the things you do (mostly the higher-up positions) are literally a dream to do.

One of those higher-up positions belongs to a man named Randy Wojick. If you recall, we had the opportunity to meet and chat with Randy about his last “dream job” that he oversaw as Senior Show Director for the Disneyland Resort. After the Cars Land Rose Parade float project, Randy then focused his attention to the special tribute shows at the Golden Horseshoe at Disneyland Park. He literally is tasked with putting all these magical experiences together!

Sure, it’s a lot of work, but as Randy’s face will continually show, the reality of a dream job is loving what you do.

Take a look at the video above to hear from Randy and more about what he does with the tremendous talent and resources he organizes for each magical experience around the world!
