After the slew of comic news coming from Comic-Con last week, we must remember that a long-lost comic is coming back to life in the form of Marvel’s next feature film “Guardians of the Galaxy“. Being a long-lost comic, some of the most knowledgeable about the comic world might need to be filled in on who these Guardians really are.
So for those comic fans (and even you Disney/Marvel-loving moviegoers), here are short bios of the Guardians and some of the other key characters you’ll see in the film this Friday!
He’s an interstellar adventurer who was abducted from Earth at a young age. After recovering an ancient artifact, Quill must rally an unlikely team of cosmic misfits to prevent a powerful villain from destroying the galaxy.
She’s an orphan from an alien world who was raised by the mysterious, dark character in the Marvel comic universe named Thanos to become the perfect weapon. As Thanos’ personal assistant, Gamora has earned a reputation as a formidable warrior. She now seeks redemption for her past crimes.
A physical brute, he has a personal vendetta against another mysterious and dark Marvel character named Ronan, who killed his family. Now fueled by pure rage, Drax will stop at nothing to take his revenge on the most dangerous being in the galaxy.
He is many things: a bounty hunter and mercenary whose mastery of weapons and battle tactics make him a formidable warrior, despite being a genetically altered, cybernetically enhanced, talking raccoon. The result of a traumatic biological experimentation, Rocket is a genuine gun-toting risk taker and mechanical genius who has a huge chip on his shoulder.
He descends from a race of walking flora and resembles a sentient tree. Despite his strange appearance and limited communication skills (he can only say 3 words), Groot proves to be a valuable ally and loyal friend – not only to his fellow bounty hunter sidekick Rocket, but to the rest of the Guardians as well.

The main protagonist in this film aims to fight an ancient war between his people, Krees, and another race called the Xandarians. Ronan has struck a bargain with the his dark superior Thanos to retrieve a mysterious artifact which would result in the eradication of the Xandarians.
She’s a blue-skinned deadly assassin, as well as a loyal lieutenant to Ronan and Thanos. Nebula’s advanced skill set and cybernetic enhancements make her a valuable asset, but her resentment of Thanos’ adoptive daughter Gamora may prove to be her Achilles heel.
Call him a surrogate father to Peter Quill, he is also blue-skinned and interstellar bandit who taught him the ropes. As leader of the outlaws known as the Ravagers, Yondu and his cohorts pillage their way through the galaxy, taking whatever they want for solely their own benefit.
Also known as Taneleer Tivan, he is the obsessive keeper of the largest collection of cosmic fauna, relics, and species in the galaxy. We first met him in the bonus scene after the credits in “Thor: The Dark World”. He now returns to show that he wants to strike a dubious bargain with the Guardians that might not play out too well.
