It’s hard to identify what an Internet sensation is nowadays. While we’ve come a long way since cats became viral, our wonderful world is now being taken over by emojis.
While the world has come to use the icons as conveying emotions over messaging, Disney thinks they’ve found the real use of them: retelling movies. Their “Disney As Told By Emoji” video series continued this week with the release of their second video that retells the story of that one famous “street rat”.
The Aladdin-as-told-by-emoji video has been viewed over 22,000 times in 24 hours, nearly matching the virality of the first video in the series that retold the story of Rapunzel from “Tangled”.
The massive popularity of these videos has prompted Disney to create even more to be released in the near future. The next one will be a retelling of the Disney “Frozen” short Frozen Fever due out in early December.
I’ll put my money on a Star Wars Ep. 7 one for next year.
