Lin-Manuel Miranda wrote the new Cantina music for “The Force Awakens”.

Director J.J. Abrams spilled the two “secrets” about Star Wars Episode 7 while on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon: 1) there’s a new Cantina scene and 2) the music that plays in it was written by Lin-Manuel Miranda.

“The Force Awakens” director said that he first met Miranda at a showing of the popular “Hamilton” musical that Miranda created and stars in. In their conversation, Miranda joked that if there was a Cantina scene (like the one made famous from “A New Hope”) in the new film, he’d write it. Apparently Abrams was caught off guard because that scene was a secret still waiting to be made public if at all.

The real reason Abrams was surprised was because John Williams, who is writing the soundtrack, earlier told him that he didn’t want to write the music for it again, citing “I just want to focus on the score”.

With that need now established, Abrams “shot” Miranda an email that would later change his life.

We did. Worked on it between 6pm & 7:30 on 2 show days for the past 2 months. JJ is the best. Can’t wait to see. https://t.co/pPYu8nRsxI

Abrams also said that he co-wrote the new song with Miranda. He didn’t mention what the song will sound like, but he had full faith in Miranda because of his “musical genius”. Based on Miranda’s own appearance and performance on Fallon just a few weeks ago (included below), you might have a hard time questioning him.

…17 days until we hear Miranda’s version of the Cantina music!
