The biggest Disney upsets of 2015

Disney’s had a great year in 2015 – with more than their fair share of now-iconic movies, great additions to the park, and even huge technological progresses, Disney continues to be a positive cultural force.

However no company is perfect, and Disney is no exception. Some things happened this year that have made even the most hardcore Disney fan tilt their head in confusion.

Here’s a quick look at some upsets that happened this year in the Disney world:

Freeform

This year Disney announced the name change from ABC Family to Freeform, in an attempt to better appeal to an audience of “becomer“s. It’s not that this change is necessarily bad – in fact it’s great that Disney recognizes shows like Pretty Little Liars and Young and Hungry aren’t really family-friendly – but at the same time this new name makes it feel as though even Disney isn’t sure what kind of shows they’re going to make from here on out. What does “Freeform” exactly mean? We’re not sure, and we’re not sure if Disney knows either.

This movie got many mixed reviews, so many might disagree with it being on this list. Still, the ratings and money show that this movie might in fact be Pixar’s biggest letdown; not just of this year, but so far for all time.

“Disney’s Aladdin – A Musical Spectacular” closing

Social media doesn’t lie! People are not happy that Disney is planning to firmly close “Disney’s Aladdin – A Musical Spectacular” in early 2016. Not only are people disappointed that the show itself is closing but many are also combating the fact that it’s being replaced by yet another Frozen show. We even have some of our own suggestions as to what might be able to replace the show – if in fact we can ever be ok with the fact that Disney’s getting rid of it.

Rise in pass prices

This is, perhaps, the biggest Disney letdown of 2015. In fact the latest pass price increase may have hurt so much that you might have forgotten that prices have risen not once, but twice this year. We can’t be surprised – with things like Star Wars Land and many other endeavors coming up, as well as the ever-present crowd problem, Disney must turn to strategies like price increases. But that doesn’t make it hurt any less!

We can’t deny that 2015 was a wonderful year for Disney and Disney fans, but at the same time it’s interesting to recognize the way Disney isn’t perfect either. Despite these let downs, I’m sure Disney will continue to be a well-loved company for years to come.
