After last night’s teaser trailer, we have received our first trailer for the first “spinoff” Star Wars film called “Rogue One”.
The film will tell the deeper story that was glossed over in the opening crawl for the first ever Star Wars film “A New Hope” when it said: “During the battle, rebel spies managed to steal secret plans to the Empire’s ultimate weapon, the Death Star …” It rightfully takes place between Episode 3 and 4.
Those rebels are very much the center of this new film, lead by actress Felicity Jones who plays Jyn Erso. As you’ll see in the trailer, she has a knack for being rebellious. That spirit has given her a mission that aims to take down the Empire through the stealing of plans of the Empire’s secret weapon.
While we might already know how the end of the film might turn out (since the Empire and the Death Star reigns supreme in the next Episode from the original saga), we do have a very unique film to look forward to in December.
The film is a first on many levels beyond its place in the Star Wars universe. It’s the first film within the same Star Wars galaxy to fully center around a woman and an entirely new cast and characters. It’s the first Star Wars film that has to deal with a world without the Force, meaning an even playing field for all involved. It’s the first Star Wars film to revisit the 1977 world through sets and costumes that we haven’t seen for decades.
“Rogue One” stars include Felicity Jones (Jyn), Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Riz Ahmed, and Forest Whitaker.
Directed by Gareth Edwards, the film is set to hit theaters this December.
