Let’s talk porgs.

Earlier this morning, Disney launched their second worldwide merchandising event to debut the newest products inspired by the next Star Wars feature film – “The Last Jedi.”

Much of the new merchandise that was released had some familiarity to them, including the awesome R2-D2 smart-toy created by our friends at Sphero, but much of the attention is actually being given to an unfamiliar sight – porgs.

The feathered creatures have been described as “cute” with its big bug-like eyes. Beyond their alien appearance, we haven’t officially met the Porgs yet since they are characters that will be featured in the new film when it hits theaters this December.

However, we did get a glimpse of them in a previous trailer and since then, they’ve become a cultural hit with Star Wars fans everywhere. That was made more evident with the amount of love they’ve received on Force Friday this year.

Your own search of the hashtag #Porgs will return thousands more people who are on #PorgFever right now.

It’s interesting to see what cuteness can do to sell product, but create hype for one that had no pre-existing hype before. Call it the Force or something else, you better bring home your own Porg before they’re all gone!
