Paradise Pier is really turning into Pixar Pier at Disney California Adventure Park

Disneyland Resort officials formally announced the re-theming of Paradise Pier inside Disney California Adventure (DCA) park today. Starting in summer 2018, Pixar Pier will be the new home to re-themed experiences and character greetings inspired by the films from the award-winning animation studio.

Pixar Pier was already announced at this year’s D23 Expo, but few details were shared about it. Today, more details were shared including the following:

  • The “new” land will consist of four “neighborhoods” representing a Pixar character and story. They include:
    • The Incredibles, featuring the Incredicoaster, the re-theming of California Screamin’.
      • An unnamed attraction with the re-theming of King Triton’s Carousel
    • Toy Story, featuring the existing Toy Story Mania! anchoring the land
    • Inside Out, featuring a new family-friendly attraction based on the Oscar-winning film
    • Other Pixar Stories, with Mickey’s Fun Wheel remaining with re-themed gondolas featuring Pixar’s characters
      • Games of the Boardwalk that aren’t themed with Pixar characters will change to do so
  • Ariel’s Restaurant & Grotto and Cove Bar will be re-themed and renovated into a new lounge and grill
  • The remaining areas like Paradise Garden Grill, Silly Symphony Swings, and Goofy’s Sky School will become a new land called Paradise Park

Disney is going to be aggressive in making Pixar Pier a reality with a target opening date of summer 2018, with potential previews for the already announced Pixar Fest celebration happening mostly at Disneyland Park starting April 13, 2018.

California Screamin’, Mickey’s Fun Wheel, and Ariel’s Grotto & Cove Bar will close January 8, 2018 to begin the transformations.

With today’s formal announcement, Disney is looking to add more Disney influences into a park that has received well over $1 billion of investment that ended with Cars Land’s opening back in 2012. Many are eager to hear more about the rumored multi-billion dollar announcement regarding a potential Marvel themed area.

While all of Pixar Pier isn’t making any of these attractions “new” (since all Imagineers are doing are swapping decor and adding some themed infrastructure), Pixar Pier is the perfect strategy to divert the attention of very ecstatic Disneyland-goers who are already excited for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge set to open in late 2019.
