Bob Iger was really going to run for President of the United States

In a recent wide-ranging interview with Vogue, Bob Iger finally admitted that he was potentially seeking the office of US President.

“Willow (Bay) initially not only hated the idea,” Iger says, “but put her foot down because she thought it would be highly destructive to our family and to our lives.” Iger went on to say that a bid for the presidency, which came before the one that inaugurated Donald Trump, would continue to nag him. However, the 21st Century Fox merger quickly  when part of the deal included him staying CEO until 2021.

Still, Iger seems to still have what he calls “the patriot in me” come out often as Disney’s CEO. He continued, “Dialogue has given way to disdain. I, maybe a bit naively, believed that there was a need for someone in high elected office to be more open-minded and willing to not only govern from the middle but to try to shame everyone else into going to the middle.”

Many people think that Iger can be that open-minded person to hold the highest office, including very influential figures from his realm of entertainment. Oprah Winfrey added in the Vogue story that she would “go door to door carrying leaflets” to try and get him elected.

While we may not get to see that Iger/Winfrey ticket, that probably won’t stop him from getting heavily involved in politics. Iger, a known Democrat and fundraiser, has already left Trump’s advisory board due to disagreements on pulling out of the Paris Climate Accord and has rallied himself alongside support for DACA and the dreamers.
