A New Fantasyland.
Disneyland will always be the original Disney Park and it has its humble roots set in fantasy. Fantasyland, that is!
It was Walt Disney’s most beloved Disneyland “Land” and for good reason. He and his team created a place where you could travel into your favorite fairy tales and see the story play out around you. But as time went on, cast members under Walt’s influence knew that those stories could get a new “cover.”
This past Saturday, May 25, marked the 30th anniversary of Disneyland’s “The New Fantasyland.” Walt Disney Imagineers pretty much gave Fantasyland storybook attractions a new cover with new facades that match each attraction’s story and a consistent fanciful theme of a storybook village. The new area was what Walt really wanted for Fantasyland originally, so the re-opening of this Land must’ve been a dream come true for him if he was still around.
We recently had to opportunity to explore and enjoy The New Fantasyland at a Disneyland Press Event. All these years later, it still brings us to a place where we get to leave reality for a while.
Check out what other guests are saying about the Land all these years later with this video.
Also check out an interview with Imagineer Tony Baxter who lead the development of The New Fantasyland with this video.
