Celebrities in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ couldn’t say anything about the movie at its global press conference

Yesterday in a hotel’s ballroom in Beverly Hills, California, there was quite the gathering. It’s where the stars of 10 years of Marvel Studios’ ‘assembled’ together for the global press conference for “Avengers: Infinity War.”

The next installment of the epic superhero blockbuster is releasing this Friday, April 27, and while many of the over 22 celebrities have been travel the world for the film’s global publicity tour, they haven’t been able to say that much.

“I’ve not read any script, fake script, or filmed anything notable,” said Dave Bautista (who plays Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy films) to the gathered press in Beverly Hills. “That’s it. Nothing further to say.”

The moderator of the press conference, Jeff Goldblum (who plays the Grandmaster in Thor: Ragnarok), selected all of the talent albeit randomly at first via a bingo-style system. And each one responded with similar things to what Bautista said.

“You know, I can’t say anything about the movie,” Chris Pratt aka Star-Lord said. “So I’m going to take my time to answer this question with fascinating things about bass fishing.” He really did speak for a few minutes about the specifics. More celebrities also responded in rather funny ways, including Scarlett Johansson who spoke about her Avengers “fashion sense” citing she had none because she is always wearing the same black leather one-piece.

If you’re probably wondering why, then, have a press conference before the press and talent have even seen the movie, you’re right in doing so. It’s something that Disney also did before another one of his more highly-anticipated films “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” In short, it’s a way for them to get extra coverage without having to give away any spoilers for a film that’s already hyped and very bankable.

Nevertheless, directors of “Infinity War” Joe and Anthony Russo, along with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and some talent, were also present in the press conference to shed a little more light on the heavily shrouded film. Some key takeaways include:

Most of the inspiration for Infinity War came from the comics. “We love the comics and wanted to honor them with our movie.” – Kevin Feige

Avengers Infinity War is NOT “Black Panther 1.5. “Everyone has a starring role with their own epic (character) arcs.” – Chadwick Boseman

90% of what the directors and writers pitched didn’t make it into the final movie. “We taped pictures of every single person in the MCU and tried to tell a continuing story. It was the most creative experience I’ver ever had.” – Anthony Russo

It won’t be long before we find out the 10% that filmmakers’ ideas did make it into the movie. Hopefully after nearly 10 years of stories and movies they came up with something Marvel-ous.
