“Creed” director Ryan Coogler will direct Marvel’s “Black Panther”
Marvel has confirmed that Ryan Coogler will direct Marvel’s Black Panther. The film will be released February 16, 2018.
“We are fortunate to have such an esteemed filmmaker join the Marvel family. The talents Ryan showcased in his first two films easily made him our top choice to direct ‘Black Panther,’” said Black Panther’s producer Kevin Feige.
Feige made reference to Coogler’s first two films Fruitvale Station and Creed which garnered critical acclaim. Fruitvale Station won AFI’s Movie of the Year in 2014. Coogler also won the Austin Film Critics Association’s award for Best First Film. Coogler’s second film, Creed has surpassed the $100 million mark at the box office and Sylvester Stallone won a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role.
“Many fans have waited a long time to see Black Panther in his own film, and with Ryan we know we’ve found the perfect director to bring T’Challa’s story to life.”
Can’t wait until Black Panther hits theaters in two years? You can see Chadwick Boseman as the Black Panther in Captain America: Civil War on May 6, 2016.
