Deconstructing “Dconstructed”

Lots of things change culturally over time. Namely music. For the better part of the Company’s existence, the music that comes from Disney seems to have made such a long-lasting impact on us just as much as our favorite Disney Parks attractions.

Although the canon of original Disney music is difficult to come up with at first, the endless covers and variations of those classics have mounted for years. In addition to all the fan covers on YouTube, Disney has been banking on covers of their own songs with selling what seemed to be endless volumes of DisneyMania music with many celebrities and Disney stars putting their own mark on the classics they love.

The Mouse House seems to be returning to that same model with the creation of a new album of Disney covers that might catch you off guard if you’re not used to that type of music. “The Electronic Dance Music (EDM) genre has really gained popularity here in the U.S. over the past several years,” said Walt Disney Records’ VP of Global Marketing Rob Souriall. “The time felt right to launch a project like this.”

Released earlier this month, “Dconstructed” consists of covers of classic and relatively newly named classics with an electronic twist. With the help of today’s popular remix artists like Avicii, Armin Van Buuren and Kaskade, you’ll now have an EDM version of “Let It Go” and the “Circle of Life”.

“The beat-thumping club environment isn’t a place you’d normally expect to hear Disney music, and DCONSTRUCTED allows us to play in this arena,” Souriall said. “It’s really fun.”
