Disney’s CEO just became LA’s pivotal sports executive recruiter

Bob Iger is many things.

He’s Disney’s beloved CEO, a Board Member of Apple Inc., Member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and an honoree of many awards. As if all those titles weren’t enough, he can now add recruiter to his list of them.

That’s because earlier this week, Iger was chosen to become nonexecutive chairman for the joint venture company created by two major NFL teams who’re looking to move to Los Angeles. Should the teams be approved to move to Southern California, Iger will be responsible for hiring the person who’ll oversee the workings of the proposed building and operation of the $1.7 billion stadium that’ll house the teams.

One official said that Iger’s role more specifically would be “the project’s strategic leader, who provides a vision for what the stadium should look like, the fan experience, how fans get on and off the site, etc.”

Iger will only be paid a $1 salary in his new role, but it’s quite understandable on why he’d accept the position of high responsibility. He’s an avid sports fan and rallies behind some of Los Angeles’ sports teams like the Los Angeles Clippers.

“LA football fans will enjoy unprecedented access to games during the season, in a state of the art stadium designed to deliver the most entertaining, exciting and enjoyable experience possible,” he said in a statement to ESPN. “Should the owners approve the move, Los Angeles will proudly welcome two incredible teams to our community and build a stadium worthy of their fans.”

The executives of Carson Holdings, who chose Iger for their task of finding its president, have also made a great decision for themselves. Bring together Iger’s deep appreciation for sports and his numerous contacts within the entertainment and sports industries (mainly due to his role at Disney), they’ll know that his choices are sound.

“Bob Iger’s inclusion as a the chair and the visionary force behind the Carson project is a game-changer,” Carmen Policy, executive director of Carson Holdings, LLC, told the Los Angeles Times.

“Who could we get better to guarantee fan experience than the man who runs the happiest place on earth?”
