Disney Channel was the most watched cable network in 2015.

Disney Channel held a prestigious TV honor this past year. It was the most watched cable TV network on a total-day basis for 2015 for the first time ever.

Nielsen, the TV ratings organization, pinned Disney Channel at an average 1.234 million viewers during any average minute during a calendar year (December 29, 2014 to December 27, 2015). Nickelodeon came in second this year after holding the top spot for nearly 20 years.

Disney Channel’s ratings success was primarily due to the popularity in Disney Channel Original Movies this year. Disney’s “Descendants” and “Teen Beach Movie 2”, as well as popular new series like “BUNK’D” and “K.C. Undercover”.

The Disney-owned ABC Family (becoming Freeform on January 12) finished in a top spot as the No. 1 cable network in primetime for the second straight year in women 18-34 thanks to its strong series like “Pretty Little Liars”.

TV is very much a central business and Disney’s top revenue-generating operation. With lots more content coming to Disney Channel and the other Disney cable networks, we’re expecting lots more viewers and in turn much more revenues for the Company.
