Disney created wireless electricity. Now what?

The Walt Disney Company is one of the most innovative companies around. From Walt Disney creating full-length animated films to turning those films into theme park attractions, the Company is widely recognized as the leader in creating new things.

However, some of those things are totally unrelated to the companies entertainment business. Most of those inventions come from a branch of their operation called Disney Research. We’ve written about the small group of researchers and developers who operate around the world who have the sole mission of making the impossible possible.

Their most recent project is certainly something that hasn’t been seen because it doesn’t exist currently: wireless power. That is, allowing electricity to flow freely so that you can do cool things like charge your phone without any chords or even light a room regardless of distance from a power outlet.

Disney Research didn’t share how they’ll use the innovative project. They don’t disclose those finals plans much of the time because they don’t find a need until much later. Analysts have said that this particular project will further push the data for the entire field of wireless power.

As to where that research will end up is still a question. Apple Inc., has been reportedly testing the technology for potential use in future iterations of the iPhone and other consumer products. While many of these Disney Research projects don’t even end up in Disney-branded consumer products, we’re confident that they will test the technology for potential use cases in their business units.

Does that mean we can expect floating Jedi training orbs in Star Wars Land at Disneyland soon? Don’t hold your breath.
