Disney had their first drone light show in the skies above Walt Disney World

Back in 2014, it was reported that Disney, specifically Walt Disney Imagineering, had filed a patent with the U.S. government that caught the world’s attention. Because drones.

Drones are continually being a part of the global conversation thanks to reasons that range from government surveillance and #DroneSelfies. The popularity of the flying contraptions have also gained the interest of entertainment companies like Disney who haven taken up resources to see what drones might be able to do to add value to their products.

We saw the fruits of that labor for the House of Mouse when last month, they carried out their first drone light show. In collaboration with Intel, hundreds of drones took flight over the skies of Walt Disney World’s Disney Springs area in Florida carrying very bright LED lights. With each drone programmed in sync with each other and a musical score, the effects were quite stunning.

The show debuted as “Starbright Holidays” and is a limited time offering, we can see the show being repurposed and turned into a regular nighttime offering for not just Walt Disney World, but for other Disney Parks properties as well.

For now, you can see the drone light show exclusively above the skies of Disney Springs at 7 PM and 8:30 PM daily until January 8.
