Disney Infinity just became a Super Smash Bros. type game
As much as I love the concept of Disney Infinity, I’ve never really became a lover of the game. The touted Toy Box builder modes and the campaigns haven’t been as amusing after the first few plays, but the next iteration of the game might just change my thinking. That’s because it now mimics a game I and probably you used to play all the time growing up.
Enter Marvel Battlegrounds, a new play set now available as an add-on for Disney Infinity players. In addition to some new Marvel figures that you can play in the game, there’s a new gameplay mode that allows you to play four-player rumbles with them.
I had the chance to play the new mode at the Captain America: Civil War press junket this past weekend and was seriously impressed, probably because of how relatable the gameplay was. Think of it as Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros. meets Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Like Smash Bros., players can choose their one of the Marvel super heroes and play as them as they fight it out against other players who choose their favorite characters. You might find yourself in a battle as the Iron Man Hulkbuster from “Avengers: Age of Ultron” pitted against Spider-Man from the upcoming “Captain America: Civil War”. There are different modes of battles you can play too, including the classic fight-to-the-death mode – a personal favorite.
The combinations of matches and modes are pretty much whatever you can imagine.
And that endless imagination concept is why Disney Infinity is so popular. Marvel Battlegrounds takes that freedom of creativity and structures it into gameplay that any type of gamer can enjoy. Who doesn’t love fighting games?! If you don’t, perhaps re-creating Cap’s civil war against Iron Man in the game now might change your mind (and make you want to see the upcoming film, too!).
