Woods & Wishes: a review of Disney’s “Into the Woods”

“I wish.”

It’s a common phrase especially in fairy tales, but for the characters in Disney’s newest live-action film, it’s actually an important thought. “Into the Woods” tells the story of their wishful thinking and the actions they take to make their wishes come true. For those who know the roots of the film, you’d know that acting that way may not end in ‘happily ever after’.

Still the end to Disney’s 2014 film lineup touches on what the Mouse’s studio is good at – telling stories (and making music) and in this film, it honors both by taking the film’s roots in Broadway and bringing it to the Big Screen.

Although an adaptation, those who are familiar with the musical can still expect a lot, but those who aren’t familiar can also enjoy the weaving of multiple fairy tales and music turned into one big musical adventure. How is this possible?

Walt Disney Studios writer and resident film reviewer Lance Cruzado returns to writing duty to escort you into the woods for a spoiler-free review by clicking HERE.
