Disney is celebrating the 25th anniversary of “Beauty and the Beast” with a special screening with special guests

In November, Disney will be celebrating the 25th anniversary of the first ever Best Picture Oscar-nominated animated film “Beauty and the Beast”. To celebrate, they’ll be holding a special screening of the film in partnership with The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (aka the folks who hold the Oscars) in two weeks!

The screening will be very special for two reasons: its format and its special guests.

“Beauty and the Beast” will be presented in 70mm format. The Oscars folks reached into their archive to find one of the original film reels that the animation was printed on and that reel will be shown. It’s a real nostalgic trip back to a pre-digital cinema world that ought to not be missed by film buffs and general audiences alike.

In addition to the special film format, there will be many special guests on hand to take part in a pre-screening discussion featuring some of the film’s original voice, animation, and music talent. Paige O’Hara (voice of Belle), three-time Oscar nominee Angela Lansbury (voice of Mrs. Potts), Richard White (voice of Gaston), and Robby Benson (voice of Beast) will all be there for this special reunion.

Also, supervising animators and Disney Legends Andreas Deja, Mark Henn and Glen Keane, key story artist Brenda Chapman, Oscar-nominated producer Don Hahn, and director Gary Trousdale will be on hand to join in on the celebration.

The night wouldn’t be complete just as much as the film itself wouldn’t be complete if the film’s composer and eight-time Oscar-winning Alan Menken didn’t make an appearance, so he will and may perform a song or two.

It’s sure to be a very festive night and we hope that many of you can make it! Be the Academy’s guest on Monday, May 9 at 7:30 PM at the Samuel Goldwyn Theatre in Oscars home in Beverly Hills.

Tickets are only $5 (or $3 if you’re an Academy member or a student with valid ID card) and are on sale now on the Academy’s event website.

If you can’t attend, we’ll be covering it live so be sure to follow us on social media and be our guest, too.
