Disney+ is working to make children’s hospital visits less stressful by simply giving access to it

As Disney continues to double down on its commitment to Disney+, it also is spreading good to many children who are struggling in hospitals right now.

In partnership with Starlight Children’s Foundation, the Disney streaming service will be offered to children in select US hospitals free of charge through child life specialists and related hospital staff.

Expanding on a pilot program that was launched in December 2020, the use of Disney+ and its content proved useful by hospital staff saying that it offered a sense of normalcy and eased stress for children while being medically cared for.

The renewed commitment will also have Disney+ target children’s hospitals in other countries like the UK, Singapore, Japan, Australia, and more over the next few years.

“Disney is allowing us to make magic here by giving us the tools to reduce fear and anxiety in the hospital,” said Jessie Bettancourt, a certified child life specialist. “When a child is here, they can’t decide if they’ll have a procedure, but they can choose what they can watch.”

We’ll be following the roll-out closely and update this story with how kids and hospitals are benefitting from using Disney+ into the future.
