Disney’s new augmented reality technology allows you to bring your coloring book to life

Disney Research is the department that creates all sorts of random and cool technology. They’ve previously made the “Face Director,” which allows directors to change an actor’s emotions.

Most recently, the Live Texturing of Augmented Reality Characters from Colored Drawings made waves. Simply put, the new technology allows you to make whatever you’re coloring a 3D character as you are coloring. While it remains unclear whether you need a special coloring book or not, it’s cool to see how far technology has come. In a digital era, you can entertain your child with some crayons, paper, and your a digital device.

There’s no word yet on whether this technology will make its way to a digital device near you, but here’s hoping that soon all kinds of users will be able to color their favorite pictures to life.
