Disney’s new “FaceDirector” technology allows filmmakers to change actor’s emotions

Disney and emotions go hand in hand. From montages like the one in Up or memorable scenes like the ones in The Lion King and Bambi, Disney has always been able to elicit an emotional response from its audience. This year, Disney even released an entire movie, “Inside Out”, about the emotions inside the head of an 11-year-old girl.

Now, Disney has technology to play with emotions. The new technology, FaceDirector, allows The Walt Disney Company to seamlessly transition between one take of an actor portraying one emotion to another take with a different emotion. After recording an actor portray the same scene twice with two different emotions, this technology is able to transition one emotion to another. They could change the meaning of the scene by making it mad to sad or sad to mad or even mad to sad to mad. Watch it in action above.

What will Disney do with the technology? We don’t know yet, but we can’t wait to find out!
