Disney Owns Indy.

As you all know, the massive Lucasfilm empire was bought by Disney late last year for a cool $4 billion and that included mainly the “Star Wars” franchise. But for all who are “in the know” with Lucasfilm, it’s known that the galaxy far, far away wasn’t all that George Lucas had as a part of his entertainment empire.

The Indiana Jones franchise also came from the mind of Mr. Lucas, yet Paramount Studios still owned the marketing and distribution rights for Indy. It wasn’t until late last Friday that The Walt Disney Studios announced that they have made a deal with Paramount that ultimately gives Disney power over Indy – whip and all – in a deal that gives Disney the rights to himself.

Yes, Paramount will still get a big cut of the money made for future films, but Disney has yet to release any plans on those films. One thing is clear though – both of George Lucas’ creations are now a part of the Mouse’s larger Magic Kingdom. Only time will tell when those new Indy films will see the light of day…
