50 Years Living In This “Small World”

We’re very close to celebrating the 60th “Diamond” anniversary of Disneyland Park next year and as much as that celebration feels near, there’s a celebration that even more near happening this year. It’s a celebration that the whole world, no matter how big it is, will come together and celebrate it’s small-ness.

It was 1964 when Walt Disney was given the opportunity to create an exhibition for the famed New York World’s Fair and he thought what better thing to showcase to the world than the world itself. With all the people he needed already working for him through work on his very popular animated feature films, he wanted to tell the sweet story of what the world looked like through the eyes of a child.

With the help of designer Mary Blair with her idea of using simple “arts and crafts” design for the sets, and songwriters Richard and Robert Sherman with their memorable and cheery tunes giving an anthem of harmony, Walt was able to remind the world of what magic and love the world can be if the people in just remembered what they forgot as they grew up. Fast forward 50 years later and the attraction (and that song) still lives on at many Disney Parks around the world.

it’s a small world‘ also lives on in the many people that have ridden the attraction since its opening. And now, those people (aka the world) have come together to celebrate a Disney Parks attraction that did much more than just imprint a song into our heads or kept us cool when it was a hot day. To celebrate, Disney Parks is hosting a global celebration starting in April that will include a worldwide sing-a-long of the attraction’s theme song, as well as a live TV broadcasts featuring Good Morning America on ABC.

Be sure to check out the celebration’s official website HERE for more information on how you can take part in the celebration and even help benefit the children of the future as they begin to live in this big, but small world after all.

UPDATE: Here’s another cool little video that shows the changes the attraction has gained throughout its 50 year history at Disneyland park!
