Disney shares 70-minutes of new film footage at CinemaCon

Today at CinemaCon, the Walt Disney Studios held its studio presentation for the gathered group of movie theater owners and operators at the Colosseum theater in Las Vegas. Like the other studios that presented earlier in the week, Disney took the two-plus hour slot to showcase their 2022 movie slate.

Unlike the other studio’s presentations that included first-look trailers and some movie stars from those film, however, Disney opted to just share extended pieces of footage from movies that are due out soon, including Marvel Studios’ “Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness,” and Pixar’s “Lightyear.”

In total, 70 minutes of footage was shared to entice and excite theaters who’ll exhibit those films as part of their symbiotic business relationship between studios aka distributors.

“Nothing compares to the brand power of the Walt Disney Studios,” said new executive vice president and head of theatrical distribution, Tony Chambers. “We offer a wide range of genres and films for everyone, ensuring that great storytelling continues to be at the heart of what we do.”

Disney closed out its CinemaCon show with the first-ever teaser trailer for the sequel to James Cameron’s “Avatar.” Shown in Dolby Vision 3D, the 2-minute trailer offers the beautiful landscape of Pandora and the characters (new and returning), that will share a new narrative. The official title of the sequel, “Avatar: The Way of Water” is due out in theaters in December 2022.

“And you can bet that the first place you’ll be able to see the Avatar trailer is in your theaters, in front of Doctor Strange 2,” said Chambers to the elated crowd of theater industry operators.
