Disney’s The Finest Hours DVD goes into the making of the film and the film’s heroes

Disney’s The Finest Hours is based on the remarkable true story of the greatest small-boat rescue in Coast Guard History. The film shares the story of how Bernie Webber and a crew of three volunteers braved blizzard storms and unlikely odds to save 32 men from the SS Pendleton.

There is action and suspense rippling throughout the film especially when the SS Pendleton had split in half and the remaining crew had no way of contacting anyone for rescue. The Finest Hours displays how brave these men are waiting for unknown rescue, and also the bravery it took for Webber and his crew to find them in the storm.

Upon finding the SS Pendleton, Webber’s crew were faced with the dilemma of saving 32 men onto Webber’s lifeboat designed to only carry 12 people.

Disney shares Webber’s determination and sacrifice to do what is right and bring all crew members home. The Finest Hours will be available to own on Blu-ray and Digital HD tomorrow, May 24. Thanks to our friends at Disney, we are able to share what bonus features you will find on their Blu-ray/DVD sets before you get your copy tomorrow!

2 Deleted Scenes

The first scene illustrates how damaged the SS Pendleton was even after the ship split in half and the crew’s efforts to stall for time before the boat sinks.

The second scene reiterates the sacrifice Bernie makes going out to sea.  Watching this scene after the film shows his character growth reminding the audience of Bernie’s difficulty making decisions.

These bonus features are included on the Blu-ray Combo Pack, Digital HD, Digital SD and Disney Movies Anywhere.  The DVD version features only two of the four featurettes: Brotherhood and The Finest Inspiration: The U.S. Coast Guard.

The Finest Hours commemorates that a real hero isn’t about a cape and tights, but the actions a person makes to be heroic. Bernie Webber’s story is still told to members of the US Coast Guard and thanks to Disney, it is shared with audiences everywhere!  Make sure to pick up your own copy of The Finest Hours tomorrow on Blu-ray, Digital HD or DVD!
