DisneyExaminer Currents – November 2012

We’re back with another edition of the DisneyExaminer Currents – a one-stop shop for some Disney stories that you might have missed but are still worth a mention because, well, they are current! Here’s hoping these tidbits of news will inform and delight you.

a) Disney’s newest animated film is ‘wrecking’ all the old records for box office numbers! We congratulate Walt Disney Animation and ‘Wreck-It Ralph’ on being the largest grossing Disney Animated film for weekend opening alone. Yesterday, it surpassed the $100 million mark in the US making it the 75th Disney title to do so.

(b) In honor of Steve Jobs’ one year death anniversary, Pixar Animation Studios, a company that he co-founded and was an executive of prior to Disney acquiring it, re-named its main building at its headquarters in Emeryville, California. The new name of the building is ‘The Steve Jobs Building’.

(c) Last week, Disneyland played host to a major Hollywood film crew taping sequences for a new film about the dramatic events surrounding the making of ‘Mary Poppins’. “Saving Mr. Banks”, starring Tom Hanks as Walt Disney and an elaborate amount of 1960s dressed extras and camera crews flanked various parts of Disneyland Park to film. The film is due out December 12, 2013.

(d) The nighttime entertainment (for mature people) at Disney California Adventure Park just got merrier. Be sure to stop by the Mad T-Party in Hollywood Land for some jingle bell rock and a side of the same ‘ol “tea”.

(e) Speaking of the holidays, Christmas/Holiday Time at the Disneyland Resort has begun! We have some awesome photos from around the Resort in all its “merry and bright” decor. (f) Now that Disney has acquired the Lucasfilm and more importantly the Star Wars franchise, we’re getting word on more details on the upcoming “Star Wars – Epsiode 7” set to be released in 2015. We can confirm from our sources that Michael Arndt, writer for Disney*Pixar’s ‘Toy Story 3’ will be writing the upcoming film!

(g) Disney has released the ‘Mickey Check’ – an icon that’ll be on all Disney Parks food menus to help families and individuals make healthy decisions while dining at the Parks. More info can be found by clicking HERE.

(h) In addition to the Disneyland Resort and other Disney Parks celebrating the holiday season with decor a-glow, Disney’s Resorts have also decorated including Aulani – the newest Disney Resort in Hawaii! Expect to see the Cast Members there sing Hawaiian holiday tunes, movie nights, and even a visit by Santa on Christmas Eve morning!

(i) Disney Interactive’s newest game ‘Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two’ was released this past Sunday, 11/18 for all game consoles. The game, the second of the ‘Epic Mickey’ franchise, tells an epic adventure played out by Mickey Mouse set to your favorite Disney memories…including those from the parks and movies!
