Disneyland Resort raises ticket and pass prices before Summer 2014 season

Early this morning, The Walt Disney Company raised prices for admission and parking for those visiting the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, CA. The new prices, that were put into effect at 12 midnight, affected regular admission tickets as well as annual passports (including their availability).

Regular admission tickets went up an average of 4% for each ticket type. Annual passports also saw an average 4% price increase, in addition to the suspension of sales for their most popular SoCal annual passport. As to why admission prices have increased for the fourth year in a row, the Disneyland Resort issued the following statement:

“Like any business, we periodically evaluate our pricing and make adjustments based on a variety of factors,” said Suzi Brown, a Disneyland Resort spokeswoman.

“A ticket to our theme parks represents a great value, particularly when you look at the breadth and quality of attractions and entertainment we offer and the special moments guests experience with our cast.”

As to why the SoCal annual passport sales were suspended:

“Due to the popularity of our annual pass program – and to preserve the guest experience for our annual passholders and all guests – future sales of all annual passes will be subject to availability,” Brown said in the statement. “We continue to offer a variety of other annual passes so that our guests can choose a pass that’s right for them.

[SoCal annual passes could be sold again when] “renewal rates return to an appropriate level that preserves the guest experience.”

With close to 1 million passholders who are continually renewing (even with past price increases) and an ever-growing popularity for both Disney California Adventure Park and Disneyland Park for tourist and locals alike, it’s certainly the hope of Disney that these price increases will control the present and future crowds that will come for the summer and beyond.

What do you think about the new price increases? Do you think that Disney magic is getting a little too expensive? Will that make you travel somewhere else as a local or tourist, or does your love for Disney still stick with you enough to keep paying the prices?
