Disney’s first streaming service will launch with ESPN+ on April 12

Next week, Disney will be launching ESPN+, its first ever streaming service. It will be a giant test to see if Disney can compete with other players like Netflix and MLB who already have their own direct way into consumer’s lives.

The ESPN+ service will no include the normal ESPN channels that you’ll find if you subscribe to them via cable or satellite TV. However, you will find a comprehensive mix of professional and college sports games broadcasting 24/7, on demand either in a web browser or mobile app. Some of the choices include the below list of sports and games.

You’ll be able to subscribe to ESPN+ beginning April 12, 2018 for $4.99 a month or the annual price of $49.99.

The long awaited offering comes as more consumers are wanting to “cut the cord” and get their entertainment in cheaper, more accessible forms. ESPN has always been Disney’s cash cow, along with their other TV networks with ABC, but the sports network has always been on top due to subscriptions. In recent years, subscription count has fallen due to new ways to access similar content.

Your value in getting the service really depends on what sports you watch and how often, as said in The Verge’s report. But if you’re not a big fan of the major US professional sports leagues, ESPN+ is a good replacement for cable and the traditional ESPN channels.
