Disney’s VMK reboot is almost done

For those who remember Disney’s MMORPG Virtual Magic Kingdom (VMK) from the early 2000s, you might be happy to know that Disney decided to reboot the game! As was announced at last year’s D23 Expo, Disney Magic Kingdoms will be very similar, yet different to those who played VMK.

The basic premise of the game will essentially be the same, with players being able to create their own Disney Park complete with items inspired by their real-world counterparts. Who remembers the rare green Mad Tea Party cup chairs?!

What differs is that you’ll be able to now incorporate your favorite Disney attractions and characters as part of your “kingdom”. The iconic Cinderella Castle from Walt Disney World and Disney California Adventure’s Mickey’s Fun Wheel will be just some of the attractions available to build.

The other difference will be to the graphics, which align more closely to Disney’s other past MMORPG ToonTown.

A lot of details including how gameplay will work have yet to be revealed. Will we be able to modify and ride the attractions we build like Roller Coaster Tycoon? Will we be able to interact and play games with others like The Sims?

Developers of the game did mention at their D23 Expo presentation that their goal was to “recreate the magic of what it’s like going to a Disney Park for wherever you are.”

We’ll see if that’s the case when the game comes exclusively to mobile devices soon. Head on over to their recently launched website to get free stuff for the game before it launches.

UPDATE 3/14: Disney has announced the game will launch on March 17!
