Erik Bauersfeld, voice of Admiral Ackbar in “Star Wars”, passes away at 93

Erik Bauersfeld, known for voicing Admiral Ackbar of the Rebellion in Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi and Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens passed away at the age of 93 from natural causes.

He passed away at his home in Berkley, California on Sunday morning, reported the Hollywood Reporter.

Although Bauersfeld was well known for his role as the Admiral and his iconic line, “It’s a trap!”, he also voiced Jabba the Hutt’s staffer Bib Fortuna, in Return of the Jedi.

Bauersfeld provided voice over work for Steve Spielberg’s A.I. Artificial Intelligence and Guillermo del Toro’s latest film Crimson Peak. The voice actor served as Director of radio station KPFA’s drama and literature department for 31 years.

A statement from Coolwaters Production stated that “Erik will be deeply missed by his family here at Coolwaters and our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.”
