A fan-cast of the live-action Mulan that will kick butt!

Disney has been having a successful trend of turning their animated films into live-action films. With the live-action Jungle Book coming to theaters on April 15, 2016 and the official cast of Beauty and the Beast announced, it is now time to fan-cast the live-action Mulan that Disney has in the works!

So let’s get down to business and get this fan-casting started!

FA MULAN|CONSTANCE WU

Now I know actresses like Jamie Chung and Brenda Song are the obvious choices for the casting of Mulan, but this live-action film needs someone new yet familiar! That’s why my pick for the live-action Mulan goes to Constance Wu! We all know and love her from ABC’s Fresh Off the Boat, and no one can deny that this woman can play a character with a lot of spunk and tenacity. That is the essence of Mulan, and Constance Wu is the woman that can totally fill those warrior shoes!

CAPTAIN LI SHANG|DANIEL HENNEY

The person playing the role of Captain Li Shang has to be someone who needs to be strong, assertive, courageous, and hands down HOT! Enter in Daniel Henney. This actor has made a big name for himself in South Korea and is now becoming more prominent in America. If his name or voice sounds familiar, let me give you a little guess…or actually a big guess: he voiced a character in Big Hero 6. Do you know which one?

SHAN YU|JASON MOMOA

For all of you Game of Thrones fans out there, wouldn’t you like to have Khal Drogo back in your lives again? Well, Jason Momoa wouldn’t be playing that character, but he would definitely make for a bomb Shan Yu. The animated Shan Yu is dark, mysterious, scary and pretty buff. I think Jason Momoa can embody a character like that, and the good-looking factor is a plus. I mean, look at that smoldering stare.

YAO|DONNIE YEN

When I think about the character, Yao, I see someone who is tough, hot-tempered, and who can fight. Although Donnie Yen doesn’t look like the animated character Yao, he definitely fits the bill for what this character is all about. Yen is a huge actor in Hong Kong, a martial artist, action choreographer, film director and producer, and world wushu tournament champion. If that list of accomplishments weren’t enough to convince you for him playing Yao, I highly recommend that you watch Ip Man, and then you can get back to me.

LING|BOBBY LEE

Ling was known as the “funny guy” of the group so it is only logical that a funny guy should play him in the live-action Mulan. Bobby Lee is an American actor and comedian that is known for his roles on Mad TV, Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle, and Pineapple Express. Yes, he doesn’t have the height of Ling, but look at Johnny Depp in the live-action Alice in Wonderland as the Mad Hatter. I don’t recall the animated Mad Hatter being a red head with bulging eyes! The point is, Ling was the character that told jokes and Bobby Lee is a comedian. Perfect match!

CHIEN PO| NAMELESS 1D SUMO WRESTLER

I didn’t know an actual actor that can really fit the role of the live-action of Chien Po so I think that the role should go to a sumo wrestler. Chien Po was all about his gentleness and his size, and filling that role isn’t an easy task. There is a particular sumo wrestler that I would want to play the live-action Chien Po, but I do not know his name. The only thing I know is that he is the lively bald sumo wrestler wrestling Zayn (internally weeping typing that name) in One Direction’s “Steal My Girl” music video. Check him out on 2:08!

CHI-FU|KEN JEONG

I loved the character Chi-Fu! He was a know-it-all, a bit of a jerk, and just plain hilarious! I know that Ken Jeong is an actor that can play a jerk and the audience will still love him for it! If you don’t know who Ken Jeong is then you have been living under a rock. He currently is the star of ABC’s Dr. Ken, but you might remember him from a little movie franchise called The Hangover. Jeong has a great way of being subtle and over the top, which is what Chi-Fi is all about!

GRANDMOTHER FA|LUCILLE SOONG

Lucille Soong isn’t new to the entertainment industry. This Chinese-American actress has had roles in well-known movies like The Joy Luck Club and Freaky Friday. She is now currently co-stars with Constance Wu in ABC’s Fresh Off the Boat!

MUSHU|EDDIE MURPHY

Unless they found a mythical dragon that can speak, then I’m pretty sure that the live-action Mushu will be CGI. Honestly, there is no one better that can voice the character Mushu other then the incredibly talented Eddie Murphy! He perfected the voice of Mushu in the animated movie and I’m confident that he can do it again in the live-action Mulan!

There you have it! Here is my fan-cast for the live-action Mulan. Do you agree with this fan-cast? If not, who would you cast in the live-action Mulan?
