Here are all the major Disney films, parks, and game news you’ll want to look out for in 2016
2016 is going to be a big year for movies in the world of Disney. To help you plan ahead, here is a list of movies, parks, and interactive news, starting from the month of January.
Walt Disney Studios
The Finest Hours (January 29)
The true story of the rescue attempts of the destruction of a pair of oil tankers off the coast of Cape Cod and the Coast Guards that perform the heroic feats to save the men aboard.
Zootopia (March 4)
An unlikely pair are joined together in an animal city to fight a conspiracy for a crime they both didn’t commit; it looks like even natural enemies can become friends.
Jungle Book (April 16)
Based on the classic story of ‘The Jungle Book’, the movie has come to life in a spectacular live action remake of the story.
Captain America: Civil War (May 6)
Steve Rogers reconnects with an old friend, however the relationships spurs a rivalry between Captain America and Iron Man, leading to an internal feud.
Alice Through the Looking Glass (May 27)
Alice returns to the world of Wonderland to turn back the clock in order to save her friend the Mad Hatter.
Finding Dory (June 17)
The beloved forgetful blue fish is back and we get to see more of who she really is.
Big Friendly Giant (July 1)
The story of a girl and a giant who despite his brooding appearance hides a thoughtful soul who is considered outcast with his peers because of his refusal to eat children.
Pete’s Dragon (November 3)
A young orphan seeks shelter from his foster parents with the help of a pet dragon and a couple that lives in a lighthouse
Moana (November 23)
A young woman sets sail for a mythical island with a legendary demi god named Maui.
Rogue One (December 16)
The story of a band of rebels who set out on a mission to steal the plans for the Death Star.
The Queen of Katwe (2016)
A live-action film based on the novel, The Queen of Katwe: A Story of Life, Chess, and One Extraordinary Girl’s Dream of Becoming a Grandmaster by Tim Crothers. Starring Oscar-winner Lupita Nyong’o will help tell the story of a female Ugandan chess prodigy.
Walt Disney Parks and Resorts
Shanghai Disney (Spring 2016)
The long awaited 6th Disney park is opening in the early quarters of 2016. Since 2009, the park has been under construction and 7 years of waiting can finally cease. The park will be opening in Spring 2016 in the Pudong district of Shanghai debuting rides such as the ‘Tron light Cycle Power Run’ where riders board a train of two-wheeled light cycles and set off on a thrilling chase.
Disney Interactive
The next chapter is unlocked in the Kingdom Hearts series as the quest for Sora’s heart continues, this includes new additions to the franchise such as Tangled, San Fransokyo, and Mickey wielding a key blade. An adventure to look forward to in the year of 2o16.
