Here’s what we know about Pixar’s latest short film “Piper”

Pixar’s latest (and possibly cutest!) short, followed by Finding Dory, will star a little sandpiper named Piper and be titled the same name. According to EW, the short will be, “about a hungry baby sandpiper learning to overcome hydrophobia.”

The inspiration for the short, according to director Alan Barillaro (who animated for various Pixar films like Finding Nemo and The Incredibles), came from watching birds on the beach. He commented, “it’s always fun to show a world we’re familiar with but from a different perspective. We’ve all been to the beach, but have we ever viewed water from just an inch off the sand? That could be very fearful from a bird’s perspective.”

Barillaro also says that the short will have a “kid at the playground feeling”, as Piper befriends and learns from a hermit crab who teaches her about the ocean. The film’s music will also be scored by Adrian Belew (King Crimson).

Catch Piper and Finding Dory together, this June 17th!
