Here’s what we know about what “The Last Jedi” is all about

Yesterday at a secret location in Los Angeles, California, Disney invited a handful of international media for the global press conference for “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.” In typical situations where media (like us) covers movies, members of the media usually get to screen the movie in full first before the press conference so that you can ask intelligent questions to the cast and filmmakers.

But this was Star Wars and that meant nothing was going to be typical. Including the fact that Disney held a press conference with the cast and director…but none of the media (including us) had seen the movie yet!

This wasn’t the first time that Disney had done this type of publicity route. They did it for “The Force Awakens” two years ago, too. And just like then, we were there at the mercy of director Rian Johnson and actors Mark Hamill, Daisy Ridley, Andy Serkis, and others begging to know more about the unreleased film.

The cast, who did see the film together recently, did share small, no-spoiler-y points about the eighth film in the Skywalker Saga. So here’s what we know about it:

Mark Hamill has more screen time. “My excitement level comes with the amount of screen time I have,” he said.

Mark Hamill isn’t saying what role he plays in the movie. When asked if he enjoyed training Rey, he responded in kind. “That’s assuming that I did train Rey, but did I?”

Mark Hamill agrees with Adam Driver about what you’ll take away from the movie. “It’s a personal answer for everyone,” said Driver. “But it’s quite possible that you take away absolutely nothing.”

Mark Hamill supports Adam Driver’s answer that this is a great movie. “…spectacle means nothing if the story doesn’t mean anything,” Driver said.

Yes, we know that the conference was held to start building the already hyped film, but in that same spirit, we hope to be posting more in-depth content on “The Last Jedi” including a spoiler-free review in the coming weeks. But we have to see the movie first,
