Julie Andrews returns as every child’s favorite person with a new Netflix series
While Julie Andrews might not be playing Mary Poppins in the sequel movie that Disney announced earlier this week, she will return to the world’s spotlight in the most practically perfect way.
“Julie’s Greenroom” is an upcoming Netflix series starring the award-winning actress and was created for the preschoolers. It will be produced by The Jim Henson Company and feature an all puppet cast of kids eager to learn more about the performing arts.
Andrews, who will play Ms. Julie who is a teacher and director of a performing arts program at a school, will also serve as executive producer. The puppet kids, called Greenies, will be created by the Jim Henson Creature Shop made famous by Muppets creator Jim Henson. To help put on the show, Ms. Julie and the Greenies will be joined by special guests like Alec Baldwin, Sara Bareilles, Josh Groban, Idina Menzel, and more.
She isn’t new to the performing arts game either. In addition to Mary Poppins, Andrews’ career spanned into TV, Broadway, and author. An unfortunate vocal chord surgery affected her ability to sing as she once did, but that isn’t stopping her from sharing her talents as a storyteller and encouraging figure for children and adults around the world.
“This project represents the fulfillment of a long-held dream to educate children about the wonder of the arts,” Andrews said in the announcement.
The 13 thirty-minute episodes have already begun production in New York and will be made available to Netflix subscribers in early 2017.
