LACMA and Oh My Disney team up to retell “Beauty and the Beast” through Snapchat

Oh My Disney and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) have teamed up to give you a modern retelling of a favorite story – through Snapchat! In celebration of is 25th anniversary this November 22nd, Beauty and the Beast will come to life right before your eyes with the help of classic art, witty captions, and iconic filters.

LACMA began posting the story on their account (username: lacma) yesterday in a series of very well made snaps, and Oh My Disney (username: ohmydisney) will finish the story today.

This collaboration between LACMA and Disney seems to be the perfect union of all types of art, according to Michael Govan, LACMA CEO and Wallis Annenberg Director. “LACMA’s intentionally humorous Snapchat account not only has made important artworks from our collection vastly more accessible to new audiences, but it has also allowed us to explore these artworks from new points of view,” said Govan. “Partnering with Disney—one of the most influential and dynamic storytellers of our time—is a perfect marriage of two Los Angeles institutions that love to engage the public with images.”

As you can see from our screenshots, the snaps are both artistic and culturally relevant, making them very much the perfect marriage of not only LACMA and Disney, but of different artistic cultures as well.

LACMA and Oh My Disney won’t just stop there – they’ll be posting new bi-monthly stories in order to bring even more Disney classic to life with art and Snapchat! You’ll be able to regularly see classic Disney stories in a new way thanks to this partnership. Follow along to see your favorite films retold with emojis, videos, and doodles.
