May The Course Be With You!

After a few teasers on Twitter and Instagram and much speculation from previous race participants, runDisney officially announced their newest running event that’s “out of this world”!

The Star Wars Half Marathon Weekend is another themed running event that will be hosted at the Disneyland Resort from January 15-18, 2015. The 4-day event will be similar to previous runDisney races with running events for all types of runners and a health expo featuring different vendors to fit your running needs.

This inaugural event will have uniqueness to it still! For the first time, a pre-race party will take over Tomorrowland for a private night of fun before the run. The Wookie Welcome Party will feature a dessert reception, photo ops with some Star Wars pals, and access to attractions like Space Mountain and of course Star Tours! The presenting sponsors, Sierra Nevada Corporation, a private aerospace company specializing in space travel, is expected to share some of their new innovations at the expo.

This will be the fourth run weekend that runDisney will be holding at the Disneyland Resort, doubling the amount it had just last year. With the recent announcement of the Avengers Half Marathon Weekend earlier this year, these new events are ways to attract more people to running and the magic of doing it with Disney. “This melding of the iconic Star Wars franchise and the runDisney brand creates an ideal race experience that will resonate with core running groups as well as attract new runners to the sport,’’ said Maribeth Bisienere, senior vice president of Disney Sports Enterprises. “We will continue to identify opportunities to collaborate with other Disney franchises and partners to develop more unique runDisney race weekends that will appeal to an increasingly wider range of runners across the country and beyond.’’

The race events, like all other runDisney race events, is sure to sell out at lightspeed, so be sure to mark your calendars for June 10 at 9 AM PDT/12 noon EDT to register online at runDisney’s website. May the course be with you!
