Like everything else in it, Shanghai Disneyland’s food will be “distinctly Chinese”

Disney CEO Bob Iger has been pretty clear about what he wants everything in Shanghai Disneyland to be: “authentically Disney and distinctly Chinese.” That will also include the food.

Shanghai Disneyland shared more details on the cuisine that will be served at a variety of locations throughout the park. Much of the food will be familiar to those living in mainland China and that was intentional. “Shanghai Disney Resort will respect the Chinese traditional diet,” said Paul Chandler, director of Shanghai Disney Resort’s food and beverage operation.

In other words, that means items like pork-stuffed mooncakes, braised pork knuckle in soy sauce, and shrimp with scrambled egg just to name a few. In addition to the Shanghai-inspired flavors, the menu will take into account the other regional tastes that inhabit China including those from Sichuan, Shandong, Cantonese and Hunan.

While the actual flavors and ingredients are very Chinese, the “authentically Disney” part of the food equation means that many of items will be plated and presented in Disney shapes or on plates shaped in Disney characters like Mickey Mouse.

Many talented chefs from around the region have been hired to staff the 3,000 square-foot kitchen that will service the entire park.

As for us western Disney Park fans who intended on visiting, familiar treats like chocolate tarts and Mickey waffles will also be available, but there’s no word on if the Disney signature churro, turkey leg, and/or Dole Whip will make it among the offerings yet.

The food and much more of Shanghai Disney Resort will all be revealed when it opens its gates to the public in less than 50 days from now!
