Long Live Hand-Drawn Animation!

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again – we love the magic of hand-drawn animation!

There are few things in this world that are “nostalgic” enough to still capture our attention, but the beauty and heart that is seen through an artist’s hand still has us amazed. Still need convincing? Take a look at the hand-drawn scene from Disney’s “Frozen” below:

Many have sounded off that this 2D version would have been their preferred version of the hit animated film which should make the case of bringing back the art to Disney films! Still not convinced?

Enter “Duet“.

The animated short film that you can watch above was dreamed up and illustrated by Glen Keane, a former Disney animator who just didn’t draw, but really dreamed. Dreamed up how our favorite Disney characters would look like. During his time at Disney, Glen brought to life many characters we met in movies like “Pete’s Dragon”, “Aladdin”, “Beauty and the Beast”, “Pocahontas”, and “Tangled”.

This Disney Legend is far from done though! “Duet” was created to show off a new modern technology that will bring the magic of animation back into people’s lives. He debuted his latest creation at the Google I/O conference a few weeks ago and it’s still making its rounds around the world. Why?

Because people still love hand-drawn animation. And you should too. (And write to Disney and let ’em know)

What do you think about Keane’s “Duet”? Does it make you want to have hand-drawn 2D animation come back? What would you tell Disney today if you had the chance to make the case for that? Tell us (and them) in the comments below!
