Lu Han, “China’s answer to Justin Bieber”, becomes the official Chinese Star Wars ambassador

Lu Han, whom The Hollywood Reporter designates as “China’s answer to Justin Bieber”, has recently been named the new ambassador for Star Wars: The Force Awakens in China. More than his boyish hair and scores of fans in Asia, this 25-year old has made his mark as a famous Asian star, and is now making his way as a promoter for the long-anticipated film.

As an ambassador Lu Han will become a part of the “Jedi Order” in China, promoting the film at various events. He will also be creating a remix and music video for his single “The Inner Force”, which will be used as a theme song for promotions for the film in China.

The pop star-turned-actor began his career early in life, beginning with an opportunity to be scouted for the Korean-Chinese boy band EXO. Han soon began his own solo career and began to act in various Chinese films.

Today Han remains an influential cultural icon through his pervasive social media presence – today he holds over 12 million followers on Weibo, and his tweet concerning his becoming a Star Wars ambassador has been retweeted about 1.5 million times.

It’s interesting to see such a young star already making big waves, and as an ambassador for such a popular franchise there’s no telling how much more we’ll see of Lu Han in the future.

Catch Star Wars: The Force Awakens in the U.S.A. on December 18th, or in China on January 9th.
