Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters attraction will debut a new trackless system
When Walt Disney introduced Disneyland to the world, the theme park was the first of its kind. The visionary pioneer created the park with the help of Imagineers and a little magic. Today, Disney’s parks around the world continue to use a mixture of technology and magic to bring to life new rides to entertain the masses.
Disneyland will never be completed. It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination left in the world.”
-Walt Disney
As can be seen with all the current closures (photos), there’s still lots of imagination left. Luigi’s Flying Tires, though not included on the list, remains closed. The ride in Cars Land originally opened in 2012 and closed in early 2015. The closure was a result of unfavorable reviews from underwhelmed visitors.
Luigi’s Flying Tires is being transformed into Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters, a new ride with new technology. It will be the first trackless ride in Southern California which will be computer–controlled, allowing wireless communication to “guide the cars across Luigi’s ‘backyard,’ allowing the cars to spin, weave and dance around each other along seemingly random paths,” according to The OC Register.
Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters is not Disney’s first trackless ride. According to Theme Park Insider, there are others around the world.
