Making A ‘Good Dinosaur’ Great [UPDATED w/ new trailer]

What will it take to make “The Good Dinosaur great? This is the question that Pixar has been trying to answer since creative concerns arose in 2013 causing the film’s release date to be pushed back to November 2015. This set off a ripple of changes including the removal of the film’s first director, Bob Peterson, the laying off of 50 employees, as well as pushing Finding Dory‘s release date being to 2016.

In a recent interview with The Los Angeles Times, Peter Sohn, the film’s new director, discussed what changes audiences can expect to see when the film finally makes it to theaters. “The heart of the story remains the same,” Sohn said. The story has been streamlined and the world in which the characters will reside has changed a lot. In fact, the world (namely Nature) will be the main antagonist.

For those who remember the concept clips shown at the D23 Expo last year, many of those concepts from Peterson’s vision of the film have been completely removed from the story like Amish-modeled dinosaurs. Still, the story is still largely similar to what we saw at the Expo with Pixar painting a scene where the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs never hit the Earth and therefore never went extinct all the while a teenage Apatosaurus named Arlo takes a young human boy named Spot as a pet.

We expect more details on “The Good Dinosaur” to surface in the coming months, so be sure to follow us on social media for the latest from the upcoming Pixar film that we now know has been saved from utter destruction like the dinosaurs in the story they will tell!
