Marvel’s “Avengers: Infinity War” will no longer be two films

In a surprise move, Disney announced earlier this weekend that its “final” Avengers film will not be split into two parts. Instead, the film will be one, albeit probably long film that wraps up Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Consequently, the second release date that part 2 of “Avengers: Infinity War” was set for in 2019 was kept with Disney still calling it an Avengers film.

Of course, speculation online on why the sudden change has ranged from a change in the story line or a condensing of one to warrant for only a single film. Back in May, media sources confirmed with the directors of the then two films, Joe and Anthony Russo (“Captain America: Civil War”) that they were planning on changing the names of “Infinity War” to better match the story of the films.

Apparently the stories were so different that a change in the timing of it put those movies together. As for what the second Avengers film for 2019 will be, we’ll have to wait and see. Marvel has been pretty good about keeping its films secret.

Probably because S.H.I.E.L.D. is shielding us from the truth until the time is right, huh?

Production for “Avengers: Infinity War” will begin later this year and is still slated to debut in theaters on 2018.
